Lore

Like I said in the introduction, bolidae have an origin story, containing a few canonical bolidae. Noncanonical bolidae do not need to follow these origins, but feel free to take inspiration from it. This is not required to know when making bolidae, but is there for those interested more in the species or my OCs.

First will be some explanation for how bolidae work in their story, and then a summary of said story will be told generally from the perspective of the scientists, I will not be going in-depth with the bolidae’s perspective as of yet, however they are a vital part of their origins.

Categorization and Naming

     Categorization
In their story, as lab grown creatures, they are categorized by subspecies. I'll use Sticks for example. Sticks is his name, and he is a Silicone Soldier, or just Silicone, which are a subspecies of bolidae.
Subspecies are grouped together and have similar colors, bodies, and abilities. The subspecies Silicone Soldiers all have blue-purple hued fur, and warm yellow-red innards. They are usually rather fit or muscular, a testament to their great strength and agility. They have sub-par speaking abilities and below-average human IQ. Meanwhile the subspecies Polymers always have red-orange fur, and blue innards. They are much slimmer and animalistic, with the IQ of a young child or dog.

On a different topic, there is no such thing as families or relatives with bolidae with one exeption. There is no reproduction of any kind amongst them, and although you can use the same or similar formula to create two bolidae, that would simply classify them as being the same subspecies, not make them relatives. There is no way to produce a child from another bolidae.
The only instance of bolidae being related, are twins. In very rare cases, one formula may create two bolidae. This ranges from a bolidae having two heads, or two bolidae being literally attached at the hip, or two bolidae splitting while growing and becoming two entirely independent creatures. That is the only case of related bolidae.

     Names
While there is no official or required way of naming bolidae, I have a trend of naming the subspecies of bolidae after materials. These materials can reflect the bolidae's abilities, or have absolutely nothing to do with them and just sound cool for the sake of it.
Some examples include:

Their Story

The first bolidae developed was code-named Project Polymer, and was being privately researched and created by a large lab facility. There were multiple iterations of Polymer attempted to be created, at first some never grew past a fetal stage, and later ones died when exiting incubation. Eventually, when a Polymer had been made that lived and survived, further Polymer’s were not made and instead focus was put on the behavior and attributes of this one living Polymer. Polymer was contained, trained, and tested on before the lab had been given recognition for their work and was given funding to make two more versions, one in the form of a solider to be used for the military, and another to test the extent of their humanity and intellectual ability.

With much more funding, and many more scientists hired, the new bolidae to be created were named Silicone Soldiers. These Silicone were created with enhanced strength and intellect from Polymer, and were intended to have no emotional capacity. After initial prototypes were deemed worthy, Silicone began being produced in mass.

Early Silicone such as Silicone#001 and Silicone#002 were made from this. Silicone#001 (nicknamed Sticks) was soon after deemed faulty and was decommissioned and discarded, while Silicone#002 (referred to only as Silicone) was not put into active duty, and instead acts as a patrol officer and assistant for the scientists who worked on him and are emotionally attached to him.

During this, Resin was also waiting to be created, however with the demand and push for Silicone Soldiers to be made, Resin was typically put on the back-burner. Funding for Resin was not nearly as abundant as Silicone, and with so much attention on the Soldiers, barely a fraction of the scientists were able to put time into it. Eventually a first prototype of Resin was able to begin incubation, but had many complications. They succeeded in their quest for a bolidae that rivaled human intelligence, but cut corners caused physical mutations that cut the bolidae’s predicted lifespan to merely a year, and induced near complete blindness, and a generally weaker overall body.

Resin had not even yet been let out of incubation, even having grown to their mature age, when the lab handling all bolidae went under disaster. Half of the place had been burnt, and various bolidae escaped containment after improper handling of Polymer and other unknown factors. Multiple deaths and many injuries occurred, and the lab has been shut down since, with search teams out to find the missing bolidae still inside the large facility, and all remaining surviving staff having been laid off. Remaining Silicone Soldiers are left in the surviving storage facility nearby, being used to guard the lab along with other human security.

And their story is left off there, for now.

Canonical Bolidae

This section will later be added to show off my named canon bolidae! There are only 6, and can also be found on my toyhouse in the links page.
